Christian Distinctiveness

St Peter's Church of England Primary School is a Voluntary Controlled school in the Diocese of Canterbury.  A strong Christian ethos permeates the life and work of the whole school community.

Our school logo depicts ‘the keys of the kingdom of heaven’ as given to Peter by Jesus.

"On this rock I will build my Church, I have given you the keys of the kingdom of heaven [and] whatever you shall have bound or loosed on earth will be bound or loosed in heaven."

(Matthew 16:18-19).

The Wise and Foolish Builders Matthew 7: 24-27

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

How does our school vision link to this Bible verse?

Buildings need strong foundations to stop them falling down.  People need strong foundations to lead a good life.  A good foundation for a building is rock.  Good foundations for a person are good moral values - understanding right from wrong, good social skills, understanding how to live well with others and a rich education.  Christians believe that the Bible shows us how Jesus wants us to live.  Those who hear the words of Jesus and follow them are like the wise man who built his house on rock.  When the storm came, the house did not fall.  However, those who do not hear the words are like the foolish man who built his house on sand.  When the storm came, it fell with a great crash.

In the Bible verse, Jesus was telling his friends that houses with weak foundations fall down.  Houses with firm foundations stand tall.  Humans are like houses, they need good solid foundations, if they don’t have these, things go wrong.

At St Peter’s, through our distinctively Christian daily act of worship, we teach children the importance of Christian values and about how we treat others and ourselves.   We use Bible verses to discuss and explore the key messages and how they might influence our lives.  Our curriculum prepares children for the next stage of their education and develops key skills needed to be life-long learners.  Our RE and PSHE curriculum ensures that our children are prepared for life as global citizens.  Every aspect of the education we provide at St Peter’s aims to build strong foundations for every child.

We know that children sometimes make mistakes; they fall off the ‘rock’.  However, through restorative approaches we support children back onto the rock and strengthen their foundations.

St Peter’s C of E Primary school provides a strong foundation for our community.  It is a place of love, stability, comfort and refuge for all.  All are welcome on our rock; we provide a firm foundation on which to build.

Our Vision Statement

‘Faith, Family, Future’

Jesus built his church upon the strength of St Peter – who was his rock. At St Peter’s, we provide a solid foundation on which our community thrives through our rich, aspirational curriculum. As a family, we nurture and unlock individual potential through mutual love and respect; enabling all to flourish now and in the future.

‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others’
